Soutra Mains Quarry is more than the location of the new Edinburgh Asphalt plant. It is an established working quarry setting, supported by experienced people, site systems, operational leadership and the wider capability of Hillhouse Group.
In this short video, John Macaulay, Quarry Manager at Soutra Mains, explains why the site provides a strong and credible base for Edinburgh Asphalt as it prepares to serve customers across Edinburgh, the Lothians, the Borders and the wider east of Scotland.
John brings almost four decades of quarrying and materials production experience, gained across the UK and internationally. His career has taken him to major operational environments in New Zealand, Africa, Asia, Greenland and the Middle East.
For John, the fundamentals of a good operation remain the same wherever you are in the world: communication, capable people, safe systems and proper planning.
That experience now supports Soutra Mains, where the quarry team plays an important role in the development of Edinburgh Asphalt. The site provides an established base, strong local operational knowledge and a working quarry environment that helps give customers confidence in the project behind the new plant.
As John explains in the video, Soutra Mains brings together the people, systems, leadership, history and reputation needed to support the next stage of Hillhouse Group’s asphalt capability in Midlothian.
Edinburgh Asphalt is being developed at Soutra Mains Quarry to support contractors, local authorities, developers and infrastructure projects across the east of Scotland.
