Asphalt

Reliable asphalt supply for roads, surfacing and construction projects across Scotland

Hillhouse Quarry Group produces and supplies asphalt for a wide range of road, surfacing, infrastructure, commercial and private works.

From carriageways and footpaths to car parks, driveways, reinstatement works and larger civil engineering projects, our asphalt products are supported by modern production plants, experienced people, technical knowledge and a practical distribution network.

Asphalt is more than a commodity material. The right mix, supplied at the right time and used in the right application, can make a significant difference to the performance, durability and finish of a project. That is why we combine production capability with technical support, quality control and a clear understanding of the needs of contractors, local authorities, developers and surfacing teams.

Asphalt products for different applications

Hillhouse Group can supply a broad range of asphalt mixes for different types of work, from everyday surfacing requirements to more project-specific applications.

Our asphalt product range includes materials within the main categories commonly used across road surfacing and construction:

  • Asphalt concrete
  • Hot rolled asphalt
  • Stone mastic asphalt

These product types support a wide range of uses, including base, binder and surface course applications, depending on the specification and project requirements.

Typical applications include:

  • Roads and carriageways
  • Footpaths and cycle routes
  • Driveways and private access roads
  • Car parks and yards
  • Local authority works
  • Commercial and industrial surfacing
  • Housing and development infrastructure
  • Utility and reinstatement works
  • Civil engineering and maintenance projects

Product availability, specification and suitability should always be confirmed with our team before ordering. This helps ensure the selected material is appropriate for the intended use, site conditions and project requirements.

Choosing the right asphalt mix

Every asphalt project has its own performance requirements. Traffic loading, layer design, installation method, weather, programme, site access, surface finish and specification requirements can all influence the most suitable product.

Our team can help customers discuss the right asphalt option for the job, including practical considerations such as:

  • Intended use and traffic levels
  • Base, binder or surface course requirements
  • Collection or delivery arrangements
  • Programme and daily tonnage requirements
  • Specification and compliance information
  • Availability from the most suitable plant
  • Associated materials required for the works

For technical purchasers, specifiers and contractors, this gives a clear route to product discussion before orders are placed. For smaller works, it helps customers avoid unnecessary uncertainty and select a material that is suitable for the application.

Asphalt plant network

Hillhouse Group’s established asphalt supply network includes production plants at Troon, Glasgow Asphalt in Cambuslang and Central Asphalt near Alloa.

These locations support customers across their surrounding areas, with the wider network helping the business serve a broad geography across the west, south-west and central belt of Scotland.

Hillhouse Group is also developing Edinburgh Asphalt, a new asphalt plant at Soutra Mains Quarry, Midlothian. Opening is planned for autumn 2026, with the new facility being developed to support contractors, local authorities, developers and infrastructure projects across Edinburgh, the Lothians, the Borders and the wider east of Scotland.

Each asphalt plant will have its own dedicated location page, giving customers clearer information on plant-specific services, contact details, collection arrangements, local supply areas and associated products.

For this hub page, the key point is simple: Hillhouse Group combines asphalt production capability with practical access to supply, collection and delivery options across a growing plant network.

Delivery, collection and practical supply

Asphalt supply depends on more than the mix itself. Timing, access, vehicle movements, loading arrangements and communication all matter, especially on live construction, surfacing and maintenance projects.

Hillhouse Group can support customers through both delivery and collection options, subject to plant availability, order requirements and project location.

Customers can speak to our team about:

  • Direct-to-site asphalt delivery
  • Uplift from asphalt plants
  • Larger project volumes
  • Smaller and repeat orders
  • Programme-led supply
  • Associated materials and support products
  • Coordination with surfacing or civil engineering requirements

Where a project has specific access, timing or phasing requirements, early discussion is recommended.

Associated asphalt and surfacing materials

In addition to asphalt mixes, Hillhouse Group can supply associated materials used in road surfacing, maintenance and reinstatement works.

Depending on plant and stock availability, this may include products such as:

  • Pre-coated chips
  • Limestone chips
  • Bitumen compound products
  • Bitumen emulsion products
  • Cold-lay or repair materials

These supporting products can help customers source more of what they need through one supplier, reducing complexity across everyday surfacing and maintenance works.

Technical support and quality assurance

Asphalt performance depends on controlled production, suitable materials, appropriate testing and clear technical knowledge.

Hillhouse Group’s asphalt supply is supported by technical and quality functions that work alongside operational teams. This helps support consistency, product control, testing, reporting and customer confidence.

Our technical support can assist with product selection, material information and project-specific discussions. Where additional technical input is needed, customers can speak to the team before placing an order.

For procurement teams, contractors and specifiers, this provides a route to ask practical questions about product suitability, quality assurance, documentation and relevant standards.

Quality, compliance and management systems

Customers need confidence that asphalt is produced through controlled processes, not simply supplied as a loose material.

Hillhouse Group operates with established management systems that support quality, safety, environmental responsibility, competence, records and continual improvement.

For asphalt customers, this matters because supplier confidence is built through more than plant capacity. It is also built through documented processes, product control, testing activity, operational competence and the ability to provide appropriate information when required for project approval, procurement or framework assessment.

Where product conformity, certification, UKCA or CE marking, declarations of performance or project-specific compliance evidence are required, customers should speak to our technical or commercial team so that the relevant information can be confirmed for the product and application.

Asphalt for contractors, local authorities and commercial customers

Hillhouse Group supplies asphalt to a wide range of customers, including:

  • Surfacing contractors
  • Civil engineering contractors
  • Local authorities
  • Main contractors
  • Utilities and reinstatement teams
  • Housebuilders and developers
  • Commercial property owners
  • Agricultural and industrial customers
  • Private customers and smaller works contractors

Different customers need different levels of support. Some need reliable collection and quick turnaround. Others need programme coordination, technical reassurance, product documentation or higher-volume supply across larger works.

Our role is to provide practical asphalt supply backed by people who understand the product, the plant network and the needs of the work on site.
