Hillhouse Group was proud to support a special day out for young carers from Braehead Primary, giving pupils the chance to enjoy a memorable animal experience at Alpacas of Scotland, Hannahston Alpacas, near Drongan, Ayr.
The visit gave the children time away from their day-to-day responsibilities as young carers and the opportunity to enjoy something new, relaxed and uplifting in the Ayrshire countryside. During the trip, the children walked, fed and interacted with the alpacas, including some of the farm’s youngest animals.
For many young carers, the care and support they provide at home can be a regular part of daily life. That support can take many different forms, from helping with practical tasks and looking after siblings to offering emotional support to a family member or loved one. Opportunities to take part in fun activities, spend time with peers and enjoy a break from caring can make a meaningful difference.
Hillhouse Group sponsored the experience as part of its commitment to supporting local communities across Ayrshire. The visit was designed to give the children a positive experience outside the classroom, creating space for fun, fresh air, laughter and connection.
Watch the video, showing the pupils meeting the alpacas, exploring the farm and enjoying time together in a calm rural setting.
Katie Peters, Head of Charitable Donations, Grants and Sponsorships, said:
We were delighted to support this trip for young carers from Braehead Primary. Young carers play an important role in their families, often taking on responsibilities that many people do not see. This visit was a chance for them to enjoy a new experience, spend time with their classmates and simply have fun. We are grateful to everyone involved in making the day so special.

South Ayrshire has a strong focus on identifying and supporting young carers, helping children and young people access the support, opportunities and short breaks they are entitled to. Hillhouse Group is pleased to have played a small part in creating a positive day for a group of young people who do so much for others.
Hillhouse Group would like to thank Braehead Primary, South Ayrshire Young Carers and Alpacas of Scotland at Hannahston Alpacas for helping make the visit possible.
