Hillhouse Group is developing a major new asphalt facility at Soutra Mains Quarry, Midlothian, with opening planned for autumn 2026.
Edinburgh Asphalt is being created to support contractors, local authorities, developers, surfacing businesses and infrastructure projects across Edinburgh, the Lothians, the Borders and surrounding areas.
The new facility will strengthen Hillhouse Group’s asphalt capability in the east of Scotland and provide customers with another credible supply option, backed by experienced people, modern plant, reliable logistics and a commitment to quality from day one.
Located at Soutra Mains Quarry, Edinburgh Asphalt is positioned to support a wide range of asphalt requirements across the region.
The facility is being developed with the needs of local authorities, main contractors, civil engineering contractors, surfacing contractors, housebuilders, developers, consultants and specifiers in mind.
As the plant moves towards opening, we will share more detail on product availability, customer processes, technical information, logistics and procurement support.
People: The facility will be supported by experienced Hillhouse Group personnel across asphalt production, quarrying, operations, commercial management, sales, technical support, Safety, Health and Environment, and Integrated Management Systems.
Plant: The new facility is being developed at Soutra Mains to provide modern asphalt production capability for the east of Scotland.
Product: confidence will be supported through the appropriate quality, testing, Factory Production Control and management-system processes as the site moves into operation.
For customers and procurement teams, confidence depends on more than location and capacity. It also depends on quality systems, responsible operations, clear documentation, experienced people and a supplier that can support formal approval routes.
Edinburgh Asphalt is being developed within Hillhouse Group’s wider approach to management systems, compliance evidence, risk management, competence and continual improvement.
The site’s initial certification focus is centered on the quality and product compliance requirements needed to support product assurance and a compliant route to market. Wider Safety, Health and Environment support will also play an important role in helping operational teams manage risk, maintain records, share lessons learned and work responsibly.
