An opportunity has arisen for a motivated Estimator to join the Contracts department at Hillhouse Quarry Group Ltd. 

Working within the commercial team, reporting directly to the Commercial Manager, the candidate will be responsible for preparing and submitting tenders for various types of Civil Engineering and Road Surfacing projects within both the public and private sectors.  This role requires a strong understanding of cost control and the ability to review and analyse drawings and specifications thoroughly to ensure bids submitted are accurate and to allow projects to be delivered successfully on time and within budget. 

Responsibilities:

• Preparing cost estimates and quotations for both public contract tenders and private companies in line with agreed company pricing strategies, tender/contractual documentation and relevant specifications/legislation.
• Preparing responses to technical and quality qualification questions, including method statements and risk assessments.
• Preparing take-offs from drawings and producing BOQ’s/Activity Schedules where required.
• Collecting and reviewing subcontract and material quotations to aid accurate cost estimation.
• Managing and prioritising workload in order to meet tender/contractual deadlines.
• Provide detailed handover documentation including project information and cost allowances to operational teams to allow smooth handover from bid to operations.
• Following up on tenders submissions to obtain feedback and help improve future bids.

Skills and Experience:

• Proven working experience in Road Surfacing and Civil Engineering Projects.
• Strong understanding of cost control and construction contracts, particularly NEC.
• Must possess excellent organisational skills to meet deadlines and plan / prioritise workloads.
• Communication and negotiation skills.
• Time management and planning skills.
• Valid Driver’s Licence – Essential

Job Type: Full-time (39 Hour Contract)

Salary: £35,000 – £50,000 – depending on experience.
