John Steel
General Manager - Precast Concrete
John Steel is General Manager for Precast Concrete at Hillhouse Group, with responsibility for leading the division’s operational performance, technical delivery and long-term development.
John has been with the business for over 40 years, having joined straight from school at the age of 17 as a Trainee Draughtsman. His career progression reflects both his technical expertise and long-standing commitment to the company, advancing through roles including Chief Draughtsman and Technical Manager before moving into his current leadership position.
Supported by Hillhouse throughout his career, John achieved a First-Class Honours Degree in Environmental Civil Engineering, strengthening his technical capability alongside extensive practical experience in the precast sector.
Over the years, John has been involved in the delivery of a number of high-profile projects, supplying precast concrete components to developments such as the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall and the Gorbals Regeneration. His work has contributed to establishing a strong reputation for quality, reliability and technical excellence within the division.
As General Manager, John leads the precast operation with a focus on maintaining high manufacturing standards, driving continuous improvement and ensuring the consistent delivery of quality products to customers. His approach combines deep technical knowledge with a strong understanding of the business, supporting both operational performance and long-term capability.
