Harry Cant

IMS Manager

Harry Cant is IMS Manager at Hillhouse Group, with responsibility for maintaining and developing the systems, standards and governance that support quality, environmental, health and safety, highways and regulatory compliance across the business.

Harry joined Hillhouse in August 2023 as Laboratory Manager and has since progressed through a number of closely connected roles, including Technical Manager, Technical Services Manager, SHEQ Manager and now IMS Manager. While each role has carried a distinct focus, many of these responsibilities have overlapped, giving Harry a broad and practical understanding of the business, its operations and the standards it is required to meet.

Before joining Hillhouse, Harry spent around 15 years with Barr Quarries, where he held positions including Senior Technician and Laboratory Manager. This background has given him strong technical experience in materials, testing, production standards and quality control, which now supports his wider role in integrated management systems.

As IMS Manager, Harry is responsible for helping ensure the business continues to meet the requirements of key certifications and standards, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, National Highways Sector Scheme 16, and National Highways Sector Scheme 12 for surfacing and traffic management. His role also supports the management of SEPA permits and environmental compliance requirements.

Harry’s work includes updating governance documentation, maintaining process manuals, supporting certification requirements, preparing applications for environmental authorisations, and carrying out internal audits and compliance checks. The role requires close communication across all levels of the organisation, from operational teams on the ground to senior management, ensuring that systems are practical, understood and consistently applied.

Harry has also achieved Fellowship of the Institute of Quarrying, Fellowship of the Institute of Asphalt Technology, and Certified Grade membership of IOSH. These professional memberships reflect both his experience and his continued commitment to technical standards, safety, environmental responsibility and best practice across the quarrying and asphalt sectors.

With a career built across laboratory, technical, SHEQ and management system roles, Harry brings a strong combination of hands-on operational knowledge and structured compliance expertise to Hillhouse Group.

When asked to reflect on his role, Harry commented:

Integrated management systems are there to give the business structure, consistency and confidence. A lot of the work happens behind the scenes, but it plays an important part in making sure we meet the standards expected of us and that our processes are clear, practical and properly maintained. My role involves working with people across different parts of the business, understanding how things operate in practice and making sure our systems support that. Having worked across laboratory, technical, SHEQ and compliance roles, I’ve been able to build a good understanding of both the operational and governance sides of the business. I’m pleased to hold the important role of IMS Manager and to continue supporting Hillhouse Group as we develop our systems, maintain our certifications and keep improving the way we work.
