David Ford is Group Sales Manager at Hillhouse Group, overseeing sales activity across both the East and West of the business and supporting long-term customer relationships across a wide range of sectors.
David joined the company in January 1991, straight from school at the age of 17, beginning his career in the laboratory testing aggregates, concrete, blocks and coated materials. This early technical experience provided him with a strong understanding of product performance and quality standards across the construction materials sector.
Alongside his practical experience, David continued to develop his technical knowledge through home-study Concrete Construction and Technology courses at Doncaster College. He later progressed into concrete production at the Troon ready-mix plant before being supported by the business to complete an HNC in Civil Engineering, which he achieved in 2000.
In 2002, David moved into sales under the guidance of former Sales Manager Jim Vance, working closely alongside Gordon Campbell as part of the commercial team. He continued to develop within the department, later becoming Gordon’s right-hand man when Gordon progressed into the Sales Manager role himself. Following Gordon’s retirement, David took on responsibility for the sales function, becoming Group Sales Manager.
Over the years, David has been involved in a number of significant projects across the business. He was part of the sales team that achieved Hillhouse Group’s first 500m³ concrete pour in a single day at Prestwick Airport, alongside subsequent 700m³ pours using articulated mixers. He also played a role in technical concrete works at Hunterston and has overseen block sales operations following the integration of blocks within the quarry business.
David’s long-standing career within Hillhouse has enabled him to build strong relationships and an extensive network of contacts across the construction and quarrying industries. His combination of technical knowledge, operational understanding and customer experience allows him to support clients with practical, reliable advice across a wide range of projects.
Reflecting on his career with the Group, David comments:

Outside of work, David is a keen runner and gym enthusiast, enjoys live music and is a long-standing Ayr United season ticket holder.
